WHAT IS MMA?
  • MMA is a full-contact combat sport that incorporates techniques from various martial arts disciplines, such as boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling and several others.
  • MMA fighters compete inside a cage, where they use a combination of striking, grappling, and submission techniques to defeat their opponents by way of decision, submission or knockout.
MMA IN OUR LIVES
  • Aside from being one of the fastest growing sports in the world, MMA is a very effective form of self-defense. By practicing and learning MMA techniques, people can develop a well-rounded set of skills to defend themselves in real-life situations.
  • MMA training can also improve physical fitness, coordination, and mental toughness, which are all beneficial to our lives.
GLOBAL DOMINANCE OF MMA
  • MMA is on every “fastest growing sport” list there is and a prime example of this is the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The UFC may have struggled in its early years, due to controversy and opposition from politicians & athletic commissions, but over time has grown into a major sports organization with a massive global following.
  • In 2001, the UFC was purchased by Zuffa, LLC and the Fertitta brothers for$2 million by implementing weight classes, changes to its structure, the adoption of safe, standardized rules and the promotion of the sport as a legitimate athletic competition, Zuffa, LLC sold the UFC to WME-IMG for$4 billion in 2016.
  • As of April 2023, the UFC is valued at $12.1 billion, making it one of the most valuable sports organizations in the world today.
STRUGGLES OF MMA
  • Due to safety and medical concerns, MMA is not officially recognized as a sport in India, which has made it difficult for MMA organizations to operate in the country and has limited opportunities for fighters to compete in official events.
  • India lacks a functioning infrastructure for MMA. There are relatively few gyms and training facilities that specialize in MMA, which makes it difficult for fighters to develop and improve their skills to compete at a high level in the sport.
